From day one, Subtext has been committed to creating a different type of digital agency. We strive to be the type of agency that promotes employee well-being over profits. We want to make a positive impact on our community and environment, and we take pride in choosing clients who align with our values and mission.

Last year, we began to aggressively seek B Corp certification by completing their assessment process. During the nine months it took to become certified, we learned a great deal about Subtext and the agency’s impact on the community, environment, clients, and team. The review process forced us to look at how everything Subtext does (from client work to employee PTO), and revealed a few areas where we can improve and many areas where we excel. Our carbon footprint is almost zero (we’ve offset that overage by purchasing carbon offset credits), we work with clients who share our social and environmental ideals, and half our office either walks, bikes, or uses mass transit to get to work every day.  

Being a Certified B Corp means we are part of a growing movement of businesses that are committed (and bound) to strict social and environmental standards. While there are standards and rules to follow, it’s much more than just a certification for us. We are proud to be among, what we consider, elite peers who share a common goal and vision for a better planet.

It is and will continue to be an ongoing challenge to uphold the standards of certification, but this drive to do good is innate in everyone who works at Subtext. Just as we dedicate ourselves to the absolute best work for each of our clients, we are wholly committed to living up to the strict standards of certification fully aware that we are not perfect, but are seeking every day to improve.

We want to responsibly grow our B Corp client base and continue to serve like-minded businesses and organizations by building world-class websites, helping existing websites convert better, and developing email marketing programs. But being profitable starts with the Subtext team. The dedication of our team is evident in the way we rally around each other, support one another, and joke around in the office. Becoming a B Corp is a very important achievement in their eyes and a reason for sticking with Subtext.

This is just the beginning. Becoming a B Corp is something we can celebrate, but it doesn’t stop with certification. We are joining the other 2,000 B Corps in proving that operating a business as a force for good can be great for business while being kind to the planet. Using the resources available to B Corps and the B Corp community, we aspire to continue to make our community, and our world, a better place while continuing to make Subtext a profitable and great place to work.
